AE Sestertius of Marcus Aurelius, 170 - 171 A.D. OB: M ANTONINVS AVG TR P XXV; Rx: IMP VI COS III, Victory standing right fixing a shield to a palm tree - the shield inscribed VIC GER for victory over Germania. Marcus Aurelius spent a major portion of his time battling various Germanic tribes attempting to cross the Rhine and the Limes to cross into Gaul. I believe in this case it was a large gathering of the Marcomanni tribe of Celts. RIC III 1001.
Adoptive & Antonine: 96-192 A.D.
