Byzantium - Justin II & Sophia Follis

Byzantium - Justin II & Sophia Follis

Wrong Photo - REPLACE - I have yet to photo the described coin below.

While I really don't collect Byzantine beyond Justinian I, I found this very sharply struck, and nicely preserved, Justin II and Sophia 40 Nummi (Follis). His reign was from 565 - 578 A.D., right after Justinian's. This example is from the Constantinople mint and bears the Regnal date of 9, which equates to 573 / 574 A.D. They are both nimbate and enthroned, Justin holds a globus cruciger and Sophia's holding a cruciform scepter. The mint office is Officina B. Pretty much as struck with even hints of red. DOC #36c (Dumbarton Oaks); MIB 43, SB 360 (Seaby).
