ACS Liberia cent 1833

ACS Liberia cent 1833

American Colonization Society Liberian cent of 1833. This one is a previously unrecorded die combination of the CH1/5 obverse and CH4/6 reverse dies known so far. Other characteristics are that the palm leaves are detached from the trunk (from die polishing)and the underside of the upper serif of 'D' in A.D. chipped and enlarged. Both features and the use of die combination indicate the dies were well worn. The original monograph by Colver and Harley has 6 varieties. This is the 8th and both known examples are presented here.

Thanks for the fabulous, previously undocumented, variety! See the download Library for further research on these very interesting tokens.

Be sure to check out an example of the 7th know variety here in the Gallery. Copperhobbie has uploaded his example of the most distictive variety of all; the 'sun disc' type.
